FPL Nominated for an Award

Friends of the Library Support
The Chamber of Commerce Award

How delighted we the Friends of Fullerton Public Library would be if we learned that FPL had received the Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life Award. It would be so satisfying to know that the library we work so hard to support is noted for its impact on the quality of life in the City of Fullerton. We most certainly know how Fullerton Library has impacted the lives of those we know! So many of us are retired teachers or have worked in other areas of public service and as educated women we know what this library and libraries in general mean to the community and to the individual.

We and our own families have benefited from the library over the years. We have found great books to read, video to watch, and music to listen to. There have been special programs to attend. We have heard engaging speakers and seen interesting films. To those of us who are voracious readers, libraries are essential. As teachers we know that students who make frequent use of the library are always at an advantage over the child who has no access to books.

The public library is the great equalizer. Whoever has a library card through Fullerton Public Library has access to quality collections of fine materials. The library belongs to us all; but some of us hold it especially dear! W are willing to give our time, our energy and our used books to insure that FPL is up-to-date, well stocked, and fully open. We know the library is the place to go when money is tight and how for some it’s a place to escape the rain or the heat.

It is our pleasure to receive the donations of books that so many in Fullerton donate to the library. By selling these used books we know that we are doing our part to help improve the quality of life in Fullerton. The funds we raise increase the book budget and provide the funding for the summer reading program and other special programs. Whether people borrow materials from the library or buy books through our used book sales we know that the quality of life is enhanced in Fullerton because books educate and entertain us.

The library deserves this award and we the Friends of the Library would be delighted to see it happen.
